Queen Elizabeth II's final journey: Thousands follow funeral procession through London

Members of the royal family walked side by side to accompany Queen Elizabeth II on her way to Westminster Hall. The procession wrapped all of London in mourning.

London – Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022) has left her longtime home, Buckingham Palace, behind forever. In a funeral procession, accompanied by the British royal family, military, fanfares and the applause of the waiting crowd, the coffin of the monarch was transferred to Westminster Hall, the seat of the British Parliament.

With serious expressions of sadness, the Queen’s four children, King Charles III. (73), Princess Anne (72), Prince Andrew (62) and Prince Edward (58) and their grandchildren Prince William (40), Prince Harry (37) and Peter Phillips (44) at the procession. Together they followed the coffin of their beloved mother and grandmother.

Prince Andrew and his nephew Prince Harry were not allowed to wear the military uniform because they are no longer active royals. The Duke of Sussex stepped down from royal duties in spring 2020, his uncle having had his titles and patronage revoked in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein abuse scandal earlier this year.

Millions of visitors will flock to the metropolis for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral

Following the funeral procession, a service for the late regent was held at Westminster Hall, which Williams and Harry’s wives Kate Middleton (40) and Meghan Markle (41) also attended. To pay tribute to the 96-year-old, both women wore jewelry that the Queen had given them as gifts.

In the next few days, the British will be able to say goodbye to their longtime leader in Westminster Hall. The official mourning period ends on September 19 when Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is held at Westminster Abbey. Millions of visitors are expected in the capital. Sources used: dailymail.co.uk
