Keanu Reeves is reportedly reprising one of his old roles. The film “Constantine” was released in cinemas 17 years ago. Now there should be a sequel.
Los Angeles – 17 years after the theatrical release of “Constantine” with Keanu Reeves (58) as an exorcist directed by Francis Lawrence, the horror shocker is to receive a sequel. The Warner Bros. studio gave the project the green light, the US industry journals “Variety”, “Deadline” and “Hollywood Reporter” reported on Friday (local time). Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”) is set to write the screenplay. Reeves and Lawrence are on board together.
In the original film, “The Matrix” star Reeves played the occultist John Constantine, who fights demons to save his own soul from Hell. Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf and Tilda Swinton, among others, worked alongside him. The film was based on the American comic series Hellblazer. It was the feature film directorial debut of Francis Lawrence, who later directed three episodes of The Hunger Games. The director is currently filming the prequel to the dark saga entitled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Nothing was initially known about a possible start of shooting for the “Constantine” sequel. dpa
