Review: Echo Show 5, his older brother set the bar high

In the ecosystem of virtual assistants, screens have become an element that adds to the experience, because through their functionalities, users can find interesting uses that are not available in devices that function as speakers; however, the Echo Show 5 is a must in terms of image quality and its camera.

Compared to its older brother, the Echo Show 8, this device is limited in capabilities. In terms of aesthetics, it does not present great changes, beyond the dimensions of the device and the screen, which in this case is 5.5 inches, ideal for tasks such as viewing photos, the time or the weather. In addition, it is available in three different colors.

However, the fact that its screen is smaller is an unfavorable point if you are looking to see audiovisual content, since these are not used in the best way. Although you can play series or movies on Prime Video or Netflix, the experience is a must.

Regarding video calls, it fulfills the basic functions, but it is not its strong point. It is worth mentioning that its camera has a better resolution in relation to the previous generation, but the fact that it does not have the tracking of the subject during the call, a characteristic that the Echo Show 8 does have, is a negative element, since it remains a function relevant to the user.

In addition, I believe that this may impact the possibility of using it as a surveillance camera, since the person must find a place where the range of the camera covers a greater angle, since the lack of motion detection will reduce vision.

In terms of sound, it perfectly meets if its location will be a room, the kitchen or perhaps the living room, since the maximum volume allows the music to be heard in all corners. In addition, it can be an ally to listen to podcasts, news or a recipe while cooking.

Although if what you are looking for is a device to set a meeting in an open space, the best alternative would be a speaker like the one, which also has portability characteristics or perhaps the Echo Show 8, although this gadget is also more designed to take advantage Inside the house.

Because of its size, the Echo Show 5 could be adapted to places where you don’t have a lot of space. In the kitchen, for example, it can generate value, as its format would allow recipes to be followed, while the chef has good room to maneuver without the hassle of the gadget being a nuisance.

Another alternative of use would be in the bedroom, like a clock, because when you turn off the lights, the brightness of your screen decreases considerably, in addition to emitting a red light that does not disturb at all when sleeping.

Its price is 1,999 pesos, so if you already have the first generation of this device, my recommendation would not be to renew it. The best decision within the Alexa ecosystem, if you are looking to increase all the capabilities, would be to go for the Echo Show 8 or 10, but if you want to spend less, the new versions of the Echo Dot can also do the work of the Echo Show 5.
