The corona numbers in Germany are still at a high level. After a reporting break on the weekend and Monday, the incidence is 687.5 according to the RKI.
Berlin – The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) updated the data on the Covid 19 dashboard on Tuesday morning (October 18). The nationwide corona incidence is therefore 687.5 (previous day: 680.9, previous week: 787.5, previous month: 248.2). The health authorities have reported 150,052 new coronavirus infections and 209 deaths to the RKI.

The daily values fluctuate a lot. Over the weekend, data from the RKI will be published via the Covid dashboard. However, no new infections were reported to the Berlin institute on Monday. “Yesterday, 0 new cases and 0 new deaths were reported,” says the current RKI management report on Monday. Now there are over 150,000 new corona cases in one fell swoop.
Regarding the incidence of hospitalization, the RKI writes: “0 hospitalizations related to COVID-19 were reported, the 7-day incidence of hospitalized cases is 12.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants”.
Corona in Germany: situation in the intensive care units
1,758 corona infected people currently have to be treated in the intensive care units. Of these, 549 are artificially ventilated. This emerges from the data of the DIVI intensive care register on Tuesday morning. On October 16 there were 1,705 Covid cases.
Public health officers are calling for masks to be worn indoors
With a view to the corona incidence, medical officers are calling for a return to the mask requirement indoors. “We now need a mask requirement in indoor spaces such as supermarkets, shops and public buildings,” said the chairman of the Federal Association of Physicians in the Public Health Service, Johannes Nießen, the editorial network Germany. “It is the turn of the federal states to implement the mask requirement immediately. Otherwise there is a risk of the healthcare system being overburdened and areas with close contact to patients, such as clinics, becoming overburdened.”
“As soon as the incidence climbs above 1000, we must also consider making masks compulsory for bars, gastronomy and restaurants. Then we actually have an incidence of 3000, ”said the head of the association.
A nationwide mask requirement is currently only in long-distance trains and buses, clinics, medical practices and care facilities. According to the new Infection Protection Act, countries can introduce an FFP2 mask requirement indoors if necessary.
In the federal states, however, the infection process is very different. Only Saarland is currently above the 1000 mark with the highest incidence of 1,228.8. Followed by Rhineland-Palatinate (793.2) and Bavaria (782.1). The value is lowest in Hamburg at 280.2. (ml/dpa)
