The International Robot Exhibition (iREX), which is held every two years at the Tokyo Big Sight center, is the world’s largest event for a sector championed by Japan, the country from which half of the industrial robots in the world come out. world.
Dozens of robots, most of them for industrial processes, have been exhibiting their skills to the large public attending the event since last Thursday. Among the most striking are the humanoids, who in recent years have improved their “sight” and “touch” thanks to advances in digital optics and the development of electrical sensors. This is the case of Topio , an android who almost always wins at ping pong. Or Motoman , a cooking robot from Yaskawa Electric Corp. who prepared a delicious Japanese dish in front of those present. Also noteworthy is Hiro , from the laboratories of the Japanese Kawada Industries, an artifact with cameras in the eyes and on the palms of the hands, capable of recognizing colors and shapes and identifying human faces.
Tomorrow, Saturday November 28, at the end of the fair, the Robot of the Year award will be awarded. In previous editions, this award was won by inventions such as a device capable of cleaning an office building by moving from floor to floor, or a mini-robot measuring just 15 centimeters capable of performing up to 200 different actions.
