John Long is the director of the Interdisciplinary Robotics Laboratory at Vassar College in New York. One of his most curious fields of work is creating robots that look and behave like extinct animals, then put them under evolutionary pressure and see what happens.
We had the opportunity to chat with him on the occasion of the celebration of IROS 2018 (International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems) held in Madrid. In this interview, Long explains why they chose to study vertebrates precisely, and why robots can help a lot in this task.
