Royal wedding in Japan: Princess Mako's last appearance

A wedding is imminent in the Japanese royal family: Princess Mako will marry a commoner in October. This turns them into a private person.

Tokyo – The Japanese princess Mako (29) took part in a courtly ceremony for the last time before her wedding with a commoner. On the occasion of an autumn festival in the palace of Emperor Naruhito, she and her sister Kako drove in a dark limousine from their residence in Tokyo’s Akasaka district to the nearby Imperial Palace on Thursday (23.09.2021).

She greeted passers-by from the open car window, as reported by the Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun. Princess Mako wants to marry her college friend Kei Komuro, who is the same age, shortly, which makes her a private person. Her fiancé is expected in Tokyo next Monday (September 27th, 2021) from the USA. Komuro now lives in the United States and has passed his bar exam here.

Royal wedding in Japan is scheduled to take place in October

After a two-week corona quarantine, he and Princess Mako are expected to officially marry in October, as Japanese media reported. Mako dispenses with the ceremonies that are normally used at weddings at the imperial court. She also does not want to accept the state dowry, which is actually due to her, amounting to around one million euros. In this way, according to observers, she wants to secure her freedom.

Mako, daughter of Crown Prince Akishino (55), the younger brother of Emperor Naruhito (61), has actually been engaged to Komuro for four years – albeit unofficially. They actually wanted to get married in 2018, but the wedding date was suddenly canceled due to financial problems in the Komuro family.

Royal wedding in Japan: couple now financially independent

With the completion of his law degree in the USA, where Komuro will work in the future according to the media for a US law firm, he and his fiancée have now achieved their financial independence. With this, Mako can turn his back on the restrictive life at court, which is characterized by age-old rituals, and start a new life with her husband in the USA.

Princess Stéphanie from Monaco also recently had good news to announce. She announced that the family was expecting children. The 56-year-old said in an interview: “I will probably be a grandmother very soon.” Consistent reports from the tabloid media assume that especially daughter Pauline and or Marie, the wife of son Louis, could soon have a child.
