For the 40th anniversary, perhaps the best “Star Trek” film is coming back to the cinema. In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Captain Kirk engages in a bitter battle with an old foe.
LONDON – For a few years now, life has been back in the “Star Trek” universe. With three ongoing TV series – Discovery, Picard and Strange New Worlds – and two animated series, fans are getting more Star Trek than they’ve been seeing in a long time. The last movie “Star Trek Beyond” was already six years ago, but the next one should probably only be a matter of time.
After all, an absolute classic of the popular science fiction franchise is now coming back to the big screen. For the 40th anniversary, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” will be shown again in some cinemas. The action-packed sci-fi hit from 1982 is considered by fans and critics to be the best of the 13 “Star Trek” films to date.
Die Story
Captain Kirk’s (William Shatner) old nemesis, Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban), takes control of a ship and several Starfleet personnel. His goal: take revenge on Kirk, who once sent the criminal into exile. The two old adversaries fight a bitter duel of life and death. The film continues the storyline of the Starship Enterprise episode “The Sleeping Tiger,” which you don’t need to be familiar with to see the film.
The crew around Kirk, Commander Spock, Lieutenant Uhura and Co. returned to the big screen in 1979, ten years after the end of the TV series “Star Trek” (“Spaceship Enterprise”). Star Trek: The Movie was a box office success, but the reaction was mixed.
Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry has handed command of the sequel to writer Harve Bennett and director Nicholas Meyer. The duo created a real cult film. The grandiose film music comes from composer James Horner (“Titanic”).
