"Sex trafficking conspiracy": charges against Epstein's ex-girlfriend extended – trial adjourned

The trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, ex-girlfriend of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is adjourned. There are new fishing points in the room.

New York – The trial of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s jailed ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, has been postponed due to new prosecution charges. On Monday May 3, 2021 local time, Judge Alison Nathan ruled that a “brief” delay was appropriate for the prosecution’s new allegations. The defense had also asked for more time to prepare.

Sexual abuse: Trial of Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend Maxwell postponed

“The court considers an adjournment to fall 2021 appropriate,” wrote Nathan. The trial was originally scheduled to begin on July 12th. The public prosecutor’s office and defense can now propose a new date until May 10th.

Ghislaine Maxwell, the former Epstein confidante, was arrested in July 2020 in the east coast state of New Hampshire, USA, and charged on several counts, including transporting minors for a “criminal sexual act” and perjury. Maxwell is said to have recruited underage girls for Jefferey Epstein, as the prosecutor accuses her. The investment banker then sexually abused them, and Maxwell is said to have been partly involved in the abuse himself.

“Sex trafficking with a minor”: Maxwell denies allegations

At the end of March the indictment was expanded by two points. The daughter of the late British media baron Robert Maxwell was also accused of “sex trafficking with a minor” and “conspiracy to trade in sex”, and another victim was included in the expanded indictment. Ghislaine Maxwell denies the allegations and pleads not guilty. She is currently in custody in New York, a release on bail has repeatedly been refused because of the risk of escape.
