Great Britain mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth II. The United Kingdom must now arrange her successor. The focus is on the new King Charles.

Munich/London – Queen Elizabeth II is dead – and Great Britain is in deep mourning. The monarch died on Thursday (September 8) at her country home, Castle Balmoral, in Scotland, aged 96.

With her death, the so-called “Operation London Bridge” came into force. It is the code name of the plan that will regulate affairs after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in a ten-day ceremonial. However, her successor was already settled at the moment of her death.

Charles explained in the letter: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of profound sadness for me and all members of my family. We deeply mourn the passing of a cherished Sovereign and much loved Mother. I know their loss will be felt deeply across the land, in the Empire and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this time of sorrow and change, my family and I are comforted and strengthened by knowing the Queen’s respect and deep affection.”

The day after the death of Elizabeth II, i.e. this Friday (September 9th), the Accession Council officially proclaimed the heir to the throne Prince Charles as the new king, on the evening of the following day – i.e. Saturday (September 10th) – occurs The UK Parliament meets at the Palace of Westminster in London and swears allegiance to the new King.
