Can you imagine a city in which its streets are digital? Thanks to the Smart Way, the more than 50,000 citizens and tourists who walk through the center of Madrid every day will be able to receive tourist and commercial information about the area via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: city maps, public transport plans, access to the leisure or information about events among others. All these digital services will come from a “virtual cloud” installed on the pavement.
The Madrid City Council and ASEPI (Agrupación Empresarial Innovadora del Pavimento Inteligente de España) have presented the first installation of these characteristics in Puerta del Sol. It consists of a pavement made of natural calcium carbonate stone that integrates all the electronic equipment necessary for the provision of digital services. In addition, it incorporates a tactile routing adapted to the blind.
With this initiative ASEPI intends to turn Spanish cities into pioneers of digital pavement and create a smart city model that can be exported to the rest of the world.
