Sony uses AI to personalize the gaming experience of video games

While some authorities, scientists and experts in certain subjects are somewhat concerned about the biases shown by artificial intelligence (AI), there is no doubt that its proper use can provide us with excellent advantages in our day to day life. And if you are one of those people who are passionate about video games, it is very possible that this news will interest you.

And, according to a recently published patent, we have learned that Sony has managed to program artificial intelligence in order to help users customize their video game characters .

This new AI program would learn based on the personal traits of each user , collected from the player’s own game profile.

How would this artificial intelligence program work?

As is clear from the patent, the program in question works by assigning a predetermined game profile to the user, including a game style capable of simulating how humans would play it.

This profile then learns to automate the gaming process based on the specific playing style of the user in question , and is even capable of monitoring a set of games to adapt the default playing style to the user’s own unique gaming preferences.

Finally, once the program has learned the user’s style of play, artificial intelligence can control the first application instance of the game , so that it can automate the game process to help the user during the game.

It is, as we can see, an assisted game method whose main objective is to give users the possibility of controlling their own AI characters , with which it would be possible to support their game experience as much as possible, since it could help to players to achieve game objectives previously considered too challenging to complete on their own.

In other words, the AI character is basically the one who plays (like the human player), using the player’s personalized play style to achieve certain obstacles, while the user can be busy with other tasks .

How would it be applied in the game?

Sony has indicated that it hopes to make the process easier for users by creating a unique custom game profile for the user, so that human gamers can rely on an AI to finish parts of the game on their behalf , using the modes for a single player and / or multiplayer.

But it is not a simple task. In fact, the entertainment company itself has claimed that the AI character could also get stuck in certain parts of the game. To solve this, they have equipped the program with informative online guides, with the intention of seeking help automatically.

This functionality offers the user the ability to consult a pool of expert players for advice on how to complete certain difficult tasks. But the automated program, finally, will not intervene without the user’s own permission and knowledge.
