After a long absence, the “Gorch Fock” is back. In total there are more than 100 traditional ships to admire at the Hanse Sail.

Rostock/Warnemünde – With the best summer weather and in front of a picturesque backdrop, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) opened one of the world’s largest windjammer and traditional sailing meetings, the Hanse Sail, on Thursday evening in the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde.

Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected at the city harbor of the Hanseatic city of Rostock and in Warnemünde until Sunday at the 31st edition of the maritime folk festival.

111 traditional ships can be seen on the quay walls and at sea, including the German Navy’s sailing training ship, the “Gorch Fock”, for the first time in seven years. After the corona-related cancellation in 2020 and the smaller anniversary edition last year, the Hanse Sail is back this year in full. dpa
