Steven Spielberg was more of a skeptic of streaming services in the film industry. Now the Oscar winner is entering into a multi-year partnership with Netflix.
Los Angeles – Oscar winner Steven Spielberg (74, “Schindler’s List”, “Saving Private Ryan”) and Netflix are teaming up. The streaming service and Spielberg’s production company Amblin Partners announced plans for a multi-year collaboration.
Accordingly, several joint feature films are planned per year. Amblin is entirely focused on storytelling, Spielberg said in a statement. He is looking forward to the “wonderful opportunity” to develop new stories and new viewers together with Netflix.
Working with Netflix program director Ted Sarandos is very important to him personally, said the director. Sarandos (56) praised Spielberg as a “creative visionary and leader”. He was very much influenced by his stories and memorable characters as he grew up.
Spielberg, who staged blockbusters like “Jaws”, “Raiders of the Lost Treasure”, “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial” and “Jurassic Park”, was more of a skeptic of streaming services like Netflix in the film industry. His production company traditionally works closely with the Hollywood studio Universal Pictures. Amblin recently produced films such as Jurassic World: Dominion, West Side Story, The Trial of the Chicago 7 and 1917. dpa
