Now it worked: A crane lifted the dome made of steel and glass from the leaning tower on a pier in Bremerhaven. It needs to be renovated.
Bremerhaven – The red dome of the skewed Moleturm in Bremerhaven has been successfully lifted down. “Everything went wonderfully with the salvage,” said a Bremenports spokesman on Friday afternoon.
Previously, 24 additional steel struts had to be sawed up, which had unexpectedly been discovered between the dome and the tower. They were also the reason why the lifting attempts on Thursday were unsuccessful several times. Now the dismantling work continues. “The dome is in need of complete renovation, but we now have the opportunity to do so,” said the spokesman.
The north mole, at the top of which is the historic tower, had lowered during the night of August 18th. Since then, the beacon – one of Bremerhaven’s landmarks – has been crooked. dpa
