Just a few years ago, if not months, I doubt that in Spain there were many smartphone users who knew One Plus. I admit that until October of last year, when the One Plus 6 fell into my hands, and a few months later the 6T, I only knew about this brand thanks to the fact that a colleague and great connoisseur of smartphones and an expert in photography spoke to me in his day. from a manufacturer whose devices were only accessible by invitation. But I had never had one of them in my hands.
Today, the Chinese company that already has 1,500 employees in the world, still far from Huawei’s tens of thousands, boasts of being the number one in sales in the Premium segment in India during 2018. And, they say, also that According to IDC, they are the fifth manufacturer in this same segment in the United States and fourth in Europe, without accounting for sales from Spain yet.
To continue with these good statistics, on the afternoon of this Tuesday he presented his 7 series, with a dry version 7, another Pro and a 5G that for now can only be seen and played in the United Kingdom and Finland , thanks to the agreements with the local operators, EE and Elisa, respectively. In Spain, then, it will take time to see it again, as happened with the Oppo Reno 5G that was presented a few weeks ago in Switzerland with the local operator Swisscom, among others.
Made for the tech savvy
According to One Plus itself, its smart devices are made “for those who know about technology”, so we are going with some data and technological characteristics: Fluid Amoled (Samsung) curved screen of 6.67 inches, without notch – later We will talk about the solution it provides to eliminate it-, 2K resolution, 90 hertz screen refresh only in the market, HDR 10+, low brightness at 0.27 nits and A + rating of the display. It has three rear lenses, a 16 megapixel wide-angle camera, another 48 million pixel camera and a last one with a x3 optical zoom, and a x10 digital, like the Oppo Reno and far from the x50 digital of the Huawei P30 Pro.
The One Plus 7 series lenses have a new ultrashot algorithm, they say unique and their own, that in automatic mode mixes HDR + and super resolution to take snapshots with the best quality, also in night mode and in filming. video with 4K resolution and at 60 frames per second. According to the scores of some experts, the Chinese manufacturer says that the quality of its cameras is only behind those of the Huawei P30 Pro. But the most attractive lens of the new One Plus 7 series is on the front with the camera ‘pop up’, very similar to the one Oppo taught in Zurich for their Reno series.
The ‘pop up’ camera of the One Plus 7, very striking for when facial recognition is configured, although it is only 2D, has 16 million pixels and opens in just 0.53 seconds, as I have been able to verify . It has a mechanical telescopic structure, and in the event of a fall, also like the Oppo Reno’s front lens, the camera folds in milliseconds thanks to the work done by the accelerometer and gyroscope. The data handled by One Plus indicates that this camera is capable of operating without any error for more than 300,000 openings, which would be equivalent to five years of duration if each day of that five-year period the camera is opened and closed 150 times. When compared to the figures on the similar ‘pop up’ lens on the Oppo Reno, the one on the One Plus opens and closes about 100,000 times more, and is also resistant to water and dust.
The Pro and 5G versions of the 7 series feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 smart processor, which provides Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and Computational Unit (CPU) performances of over 40 and 20 percent, respectively, compared with the previous platform of the American firm. They also have the new equipment with improved RAM Boost so that the smartphone opens more quickly the applications that the user uses more frequently.
Regarding the fingerprint sensor, which already introduced One Plus last year only after Huawei in its Mate 20, the 7 series improves performance. Despite not being ultrasonic, like the one that integrates the Samsung Galaxy S10, the sensor of the One Plus 7, 7 Pro and 7 5G grows 36 percent compared to the previous one, reaching 7×7 millimeters, with which more light enters. the screen causing the device to unlock faster. If the One Plus 6T was unlocked with the fingerprint sensor in 0.36 seconds, the 7 Pro opens in just 0.21 seconds.
The battery of the One Plus 7 Pro has a capacity of 4,000 mAh, similar, although a little below, for example, Huawei’s P30 Pro which has 4,200 mAh. The new One Plus series 7 with induction charging does not count either, and they justify it by pointing out that “this technology is not yet perfected, it overheats the mobile a lot and it is necessary to be precise in placing the equipment on the charging base. We bet on our own 30 watt fast charging technology, which allows 50 percent of the smartphone to be charged in just 20 minutes ”, they say in One Plus.
Finally, the game mode of the One Plus series 7 has been improved compared to the series 6. A clear commitment by the Chinese manufacturer to this world of video games and esports on smartphones, which will undoubtedly explode with 5G. Optical vibration motor, liquid cooling, ten layers of heat dissipation, game recorder on screen while the user is playing, or pause and resume of games are some of the improved game features.
Prices One Plus series 7, from 609 to 829 euros depending on configuration. Available from May 21.
