This year's drones certainly support the theory that these devices unlock an exceptional mode of photographers. Held in conjunction with Italy's popular Siena International Photography Awards, this seventh edition of the Drone Photography Awards attracted around 14,000 photos from more than 100 countries around the world.
Many of the images, including that of the winner of the 'photo of the year' ' Pink-Footed Geese Meeting the Winter' were made possible using drones such as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.
We've rounded up several of the impressive winners from the top nine categories, from the 2021 Drone Photo Awards (Photo of the Year, Urban, Wildlife, Sport, People, Nature, Abstract, Wedding, Series and Video).
This year, a flock of thousands of pink-legged geese flies over snowy terrain (whose arrival each year comes much earlier, a consequence related to climate change) on their way to the Arctic islands of Svalbard in Norway, immortalized by the Norwegian photographer Terje Kolaas, has been the winning photo of the Drone Awards 2021, as we remember, the main international competition of aerial photography.
Here is a selection of other impressive images:
