On Tuesday, July 2, 2019 we were fortunate to witness a spectacular total solar eclipse.
The astronomer Miquel Serra-Ricart, from the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, has described it as "impressive" given the appearance of the sky when observing the solar corona as a "diamond ring".
The eclipse, visible in part of the southern Pacific Ocean, central Chile and central Argentina, and partially, in most of the southern Pacific Ocean and western South America, It has allowed a particularly clear view of the moon's shadow, approaching the horizon, from the Cerro Tololo Observatory, in Chile.
Likewise, we have been able to clearly appreciate the asymmetric corona and the Sun's poles, practically vertically, in addition to celestial objects: the planet Venus, near the horizon, and Mars in the background.
