Geologists from the University of Utah have found several hundred dinosaur tracks in a territory on the border between Arizona and Utah that 190 million years ago was occupied by a sandy oasis in the desert.
Such is the amount of footprints of large prehistoric reptiles found – a dozen per square meter – that the place has been dubbed the “dance floor of the dinosaurs .” ? Walking around trying to put my feet only in their tracks reminded me of the Dance Dance Revolution video game that makes teenagers move their skeletons on a board ,? explains Marjorie Chan, a geologist and co-author of the study. What is evident, he says, is that it was a place traveled by many different dinosaurs, “that it attracted crowds.”
So far, Chan and his collaborators have identified footprints belonging to four different dinosaurs ( Eubrontes , Grallator , Sauropodomorphs and Anchisauripus ) , of very different ages. Details about the research are published in the journal Palaios.
