The current Tokyo Olympic Games have many people aware of everything that the athletes of their respective countries do in each of the competitions that are held and with so much Olympic spirit it seems that the International Space Station has wanted to add to it by organizing their own olympic games.
The Olympic Games are also held on the International Space Station
The world has its sights set on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and even these are interesting at an altitude of 300 kilometers from Earth, where in fact the competition is very intense aboard the International Space Station.
The astronauts aboard the structure, in fact, have been swept away by the “Olympic fever” of these days and weeks ago they decided to create their own Olympic Games that apparently have already been carried out with a result that has been of the liked by all participants.
” The Olympic Games have started in Tokyo, but we celebrated the first Space Olympic Games last week ,” wrote a few days ago the astronaut of the European Space Agency Thomas Pesquet in a caption of a photo album that he uploaded to his Facebook account .
The images were taken by Pesquet in early July. In them you can see how the astronauts held a small competition between the crew between the Soyuz team and the Dragon team. The organization of the event, as explained in the aforementioned post, was carried out by NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei.
How were the first Olympics of the International Space Station?
And what were the competitions of these original Olympics? Well, all of them were inspired by the authentic competitions that are normally held in the Olympic games, although adapted to the conditions inside the Space Station and also according to the work that is carried out there. In this way, the two participating teams faced each other in synchronized flotation tests, long jump in microgravity conditions and played up to handball matches but without hands.
For the occasion, and to increase the atmosphere, the astronauts placed a flag of each country on Earth on the roof of the Space Station.
And who were the winners? Well, both teams took symbolic medals in each of the disciplines played, something that shows the team spirit and community that is breathed in the station that orbits the Earth at an altitude of 340 km and a speed of 27,700 km / h or 7, 7 km / s.
