Using the slang of basketball, and if Huawei does well with its new series of Mate 20 devices and with the Pro as a standard, the Chinese brand could be worth only a triple basket to lead the Spanish smartphone sales market . According to data from the consulting firm GFK, Samsung continues to lead in Spain in sales in the number of units with a market share of 29 percent, compared to 26 percent for Huawei. The third in contention on the national scene, Apple, is 19 percentage points behind the Korean brand, and 16 from the Chinese.
But if Huawei’s accounts go as expected by its managers, this Christmas the scenario could change and the omelette could turn around. The Huawei Mate 20 and 20 Pro that have been presented in London represent the maximum expression of the ‘Intelligence’ that until now a manufacturer has put in a device for the enjoyment of those who acquire it from October 16, and from 799 euros for the Mate 20 and from 1049 for the Mate 20 Pro.
With a processor, Kirin 980, which only coughs up Apple’s A12 Bionic, Huawei shows its strengths in its Mate range: TSMC processing technology with 7 nanometers that allows the Kirin 980 to house 6.9 billion transistors in just 1 cm2, 1.6 times greater capacity than the previous generation, 20 percent more performance, and a 40 percent improvement in efficiency.
The Mate 20 and 20 Pro represent a new era of artificial intelligence (AI) in the smartphone universe. Only the iPhone Xs and Xs Max and its A12 Bionic processor can match the double NPU of the Kirin 980, which offers an image recognition capacity greater than the sum of two NPUs, recognizing up to 4,600 images per minute, a 120 percent more than Kirin 970, further demonstrating Huawei’s leadership in the AI device industry.
In the field of photography, the triple rear camera system -40, 20 and 8 Megapixels- with Leica optics, added to the new 7-nanometer processor with Dual NPU and artificial intelligence 2.0, allows the Mate 20 a greater identification of objects, and a greater definition, resolution and optimization of the images. The triple camera is capable of capturing in real time all the details of an image separately, and processing them to offer the user, thanks to artificial intelligence, the best possible image. The lenses of the new Huawei device also allow you to take photos at a distance of the object of only 2.5 centimeters, without the result being blurry, and detect objects in three dimensions , with the 24 MP front camera, to create animations to user taste. And all this managed and processed by the 7-nanometer chip and the dual NPU of the Huawei Mate 20.
Biometric authentication, both by fingerprint and through facial recognition, also gives a leap in quality in the new Huawei equipment. For facial unlocking, the Mate 20 Pro integrates a 3D camera, a dot projector, a 24 megapixel Leica RGB camera, a TOF proximity sensor and a Flood lighting sensor. Fingerprint authentication is built into the display itself, and is 20 percent faster than that available on the P20 Pro’s power button.
Huawei’s user interface, EMUI, advances in the Mate 20 to version 9.0, and thanks to the power of the AI of its Kirin 980 processor and the dual NPU also allows greater simplicity. Fewer screens to access applications, and fewer adjustments and configurations, in addition to being faster to perform any action. For example the ‘tapping app’ is 47 percent faster, the ‘starting app’ 51 percent faster, and the ‘using app’ is 42 percent improved.
And as a surprise that nobody expected, Huawei has also announced the Mate 20 X, a smartphone or phablet, a mixture of smart phones and tablets, with 7.2 inches, the highest productivity , immersive entertainment, and with Huawei M Pen and a battery of 5,000 mAh -the largest on the market-, with which you can play up to three hours uninterruptedly, and watch 23 hours of video, nine hours more than what the iPhone Xs Max allows, according to the Chinese brand. Its price? 899 euros and also available from October 16.
Now it only remains to start using and discovering if what the theory says in practice is real, and if what Huawei expects from the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X, which will lead to market leadership, is produced in the reality before the year 2018 comes to an end or if it costs them something more to get it into 2019.
