The Spanish web platform for editorial ranking Menéame , created in 2005 by the computer science professor at the University of the Balearic Islands Ricardo Galli and which allows the social filtering of news , turns seven years old today.
Menéame is based on community participation , since it offers users the possibility of sending news and voting directly on the best information on the Internet they have accessed, to configure their home page. That makes them a social promoter of information, as is the Anglo-Saxon platform Digg. Menéame also has the peculiarity that its software uses an open source license, which has allowed the founding of more than a hundred similar pages, such as the Peruvian Floréame.net and thematic communities such as Divúlgame.net, for science news.
Currently, Menéame is ranked 58 in the Spanish ranking according to Alexa, the Amazon subsidiary that gathers information about the number of visits each web page receives.
