The official leaves office for personal reasons after spending two years in the portfolio.
After almost two years at the helm of the Vice Ministry of Tourism, Vice Minister Julián Guerrero Orozco, who positioned sustainability and the General Tourism Law, will leave his position. The decision to resign was made by the official on May 18, 2021 and will become effective as of June 1, 2021.

During his time in the portfolio, Orozco led several issues that have resulted in achievements such as the record figures in tourism obtained in 2019; the more than 42 measures that were taken in 2020 to support the value chain of the tourism sector given the situation; the new General Tourism Law, Law 2068 of 2020, which combines short, medium and long-term measures to strengthen the sustainable reactivation of tourism in Colombia; the ‘Sustainable Tourism Policy: United by Nature’, the first of its kind in Colombia, among others.

“I want to state that all the achievements obtained up to this moment are the result of the teamwork of the Vice Ministry of Tourism in the hands of the unions of the sector and the different actors of the value chain of the tourism sector, who have accompanied and supported me all this way. All I have to do is express my gratitude to all of them. ”Guerrero mentioned. The resignation, as reported by the former vice minister, is driven by “taking on new professional challenges.”

In an interview for this medium in September 2020, Orozco remarked that the importance of tourism in the regions was to “be a dynamic element of the economy of the territories in an expeditious manner and comparatively easier than other sectors.” In the same interview, Orozco pointed out that trust would be vital for the reactivation of a sector that in 2019 generated 16.9 million jobs.
