In the auction that will take place at the end of this year, projects from Non-Conventional Sources of Renewable Energy (FNCER) will be able to participate.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy announced that the definitive conditions have already been defined for the third auction of long-term renewable energy contracts in Colombia, which will take place at the end of this year.
We recommend: Renewable energies grew at their fastest rate in 20 years
In the process, which will allow to incentivize the economic reactivation of the country, electric power generators and marketers may participate with Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Sources (FNCER) projects that have a capacity equal to or greater than 5 MW and are registered in the UPME electric power generation projects, minimum in phase 2. They must also have the concept of connection to the national transmission network or regional transmission approved by the UPME.
“In the Government to date, we have increased more than eight times the installed capacity for the generation of renewable energies from unconventional sources. With this new auction, which we will carry out at the end of 2021, we will continue to consolidate Colombia’s energy transition by diversifying our matrix, making it more resilient to climate variability and contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, ”said the Minister of Mines and Energy. , Diego Mesa.
Currently, Colombia has more than 248 megawatts of installed capacity for the generation of non-conventional renewable energy, which is equivalent to the consumption of more than 200,000 homes. The goal for 2021 is to reach 1,000 megawatts across the country.
For this new auction, the participants as buyers will not have conditions that limit the offer with which they wish to participate, while the offer of the sellers may not exceed the installed capacity of their generation project.
The entity clarified that generation projects that have acquired obligations in the 2019 auctions (Charge for Reliability and Long-Term Contracts) may also participate in this new mechanism, but only if they wish to present offers for block 3, which goes from 5:00 pm until 12:00 am, since being the time of greatest energy consumption, it is sought to ensure the necessary supply to meet the needs of Colombians.
Finally, the possibility of an extension for up to two years was maintained for the start-up date of the generation projects that are awarded in the auction, without the guarantee being executed. However, the generator will be obliged to comply with the energy commitments acquired during this time.
