They create an app to achieve the perfect selfie

Unless you are always equipped with a “selfie stick” or have a much longer arm than the average, chances are that your selfies distort your facial features in some way . The solution seems to be the Princeton University (USA) where a team of researchers has developed a tool that transforms the photographs taken so that they look as if a professional photographer had taken the snapshot.

Thus, the application offers a more realistic view of these selfies. The technology used can alter our poses as if the camera had been placed in a higher, lower position or even at a specific angle to generate the perfect selfie to share on social networks, since, despite the fame of selfies, these Photographs are usually bad photos, since the proximity of the camera, as we have commented, distorts our face making the nose look larger, the forehead appear more inclined and the ears look smaller than they actually are.

This new photo editing software technique, presented at the Association for Computing Machinery conference in California, USA, demonstrates how correction or subtle changes can deliver a much more accurate version of the person who is being photographed.

“Now that people can edit so many aspects of the same photo directly on their phone, we wanted to offer a quick way to edit faces that maintains realism, ” says Ohad Fried, leader of the work.

The new software could also be used to create moving 3D images , much like the talking pictures that appear in the Harry Potter films, according to Fried.

The tool is not yet ready to be released to the public as they are working on other aspects, such as finding a way to make a subject’s hair look natural in modified selfies. Variations in individual hair texture, color, and style make it more difficult to correct in an image than a small facial feature.
