The Google Pixel 4 series was unveiled yesterday at Made by Google in New York, the internet giant’s most anticipated hardware event.
If you are not familiar with the new Google smartphones, Google Pixel 4 and Google Pixel 4 XL, we already have all the details here.
What’s new?
The new and improvedGoogle Assistantit’s deeply integrated into the Pixel 4’s software, allowing for much faster response times. Both Pixel 4 and 4 XL phones feature an on-device version of Google’s language models running in their data centers, which means that Google Assistant interactions will take place on the device without the need for to send requests to Google’s data centers upon receiving a response. Too much faster. Of course, for complex tasks such as asking about when the next flight leaves, the Assistant will have to delegate that work to Google’s data centers.
Another novelty:The Assistant now supports continuous conversations, which will allow us to ask a follow-up question without having to pause to say another keyword.
Google Pixel 4 and 4 XLrun Android 10 out of the box. Not much has changed aesthetically, but there are some surprises, likePixel Launcher, which now has a shortcut to display the notification tone with just a swipe of your finger, or a new application, Pixel Themes, which will allow you to choose a font, wallpaper, color and much more; It is also quite useful to pre-install a new Recorder application, which will transcribe the audio of each voice recording and allow us to search for it if necessary.
The screen
We are, possibly, before the best smartphone screen of the year. The displays in Pixel 4 and 4 XL are 5.7-inch FHD 90Hz displays with OLED panel that occupy practically 81% of the front of the device. Google calls them smooth displays, and they can be toggled between 60 and 90Hz in the settings menu.
Regarding the unlocking system, Google has abandoned the fingerprint sensor and has opted for secure facial recognition. Pixel 4 phones come with two face-unlock IR cameras, a spot projector, and an illuminator. These sensors are similar to what we have seen in devices like the iPhone 11 and LG G8. With these sensors, the Pixel 4 will be able to create an accurate model of our face, verify that it is us and unlock the phone.
In general, the Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL share the same specifications. They both have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC (system on chip ), 6GB of RAM (two gigabytes more than the Pixel 3), 64 or 128GB of storage, no microSD expansion, and no headphone jack.
More Features
The Pixel 4 has a 2,800 mAh cell (115 mAh less than the Pixel 3) while the Pixel 4 XL has a 3,700 mAh battery (270 mAh more than the Pixel 3 XL).
Image-wise, Google is working on improving astrophotography on the Pixel 4. With Night Sight, the Pixel 4 will darken and cancel out the night sky using computational photography.
And is that Google has finally joined the double camera train. Both the Pixel 4 and the 4 XL have two 16 and 12.2 MPX cameras on a quadrangular surface that stands out from the rest of the terminal structure and an 8 MPX camera on the front. This will result in longer range portraits.
In addition, Live HDR + will allow users to preview HDR + processing in the camera app before taking the photo, which will save us a lot of time.
Both devices will be available for pre-order starting today: the Pixel 4 from € 759 and the Pixel 4 XL from € 899. The phones will be on sale starting October 21 at the G Store.
