This is the Tesla mobile that could hit the market soon

The idea of a Tesla phone , rumored to be called the Model Pi/P, has been floating around the internet for a few months. But how likely is Tesla to release a smartphone? No credible source has yet managed to convince the public of its existence, but many people wonder: What would a smartphone from the world’s most popular and successful car manufacturer look like?

a tesla phone

Tesla has a history of launching interesting branded products, such as the Cybertruck-inspired all-electric kiddie car, a logo umbrella, and a stainless steel whistle. Taking this into account, adding a smartphone to the list would not be unreasonable, but its launch is not so clear.

Most of the rumors come from a YouTube video from early 2021 by user adrstudiodesign, but they clearly indicate that these are the designer’s ideas, not actual leaks or details given by Tesla. Most of the rumors are based on that source. A phone with all the advanced technology that a device developed by Tesla is supposed to cost several thousand euros. Later versions could drop in price as more people start using the technology, but if Tesla releases a smartphone , it’s likely to be prohibitively expensive.

Assuming the phone is real (at the moment it doesn’t look like it will be, at least in the short term) and that it launches as an entry-level device with only some of the rumored features, it would probably cost between €1,500 and €2,000.

Considering Tesla’s features in its existing products, like the Cybertruck’s nearly impenetrable exoskeleton and bioweapon defense mode in some of its other vehicles, the rumors about this phone aren’t surprising, as far-fetched as they may seem.

These are some of the theories circulating on the Internet:

Satellite Internet : SpaceX’s space-based Internet service, Starlink, has close ties to Tesla (Elon Musk is the CEO of both). There is even the possibility that the Tesla phone could help finance the colonization of Mars, a goal of the company since its founding.

Solar charging : Tesla makes solar panels and vehicles, so it’s not a far-fetched idea. The phone is unlikely to rely on solar power alone, but it could allow for some amount of solar charging.

Vehicle control : There is already a Tesla application to make basic adjustments in the car via mobile, such as locking/unlocking the vehicle, or controlling music and video playback.

Cryptomining : Another rumor is that it will mine cryptocurrencies. Musk has spoken publicly about cryptocurrency several times, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that he would want to incorporate this option into his phone. While Bitcoin is more popular, and Musk presumably prefers Dogecoin, the rumor is that Tesla’s phone would mine a new coin called MarsCoin (a name Musk himself has tweeted about).
