Animal activist Carole Baskin, known from the Netflix series, is suing Netflix for her portrayal in the documentary series.
Los Angeles – The animal rights activist and big cat owner Carole Baskin, known from the Netflix series “Tiger King”, is suing the streaming provider and the production company for their portrayal in the trailer for “Tiger King 2”, according to media reports. The operator of an animal shelter for big cats in Tampa (Florida) has submitted appropriate court documents, reported several US media on Monday (November 1st, 2021). The “Tiger King” documentary told of Baskin’s long-term feud with private zoo operator Joe Exotic and made the activist internationally known.
The approval forms, which were signed by both Baskin and her husband, refer only to the original documentation, quoted the renowned industry journal Variety from the court documents. “There is no mention of Royal Goode Productions granting rights to sequels, rights to create derivative works from the film, or additional seasons or episodes,” the lawsuit said. Baskin demands, according to the documents, that Netflix and Royal Goode Productions remove all footage of her and her husband from “Tiger King 2”.

Tiger King star Carole Baskin: “Neither the desire nor the intention to be involved in ‘Tiger King 2′”
“We made it very clear to Goode and Chaiklin that we had no wish or intention to be involved in ‘Tiger King 2’,” said Howard Baskin to People magazine. Accordingly, the filmmakers Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin had previously asked the couple to participate in the sequel.
The series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayham and Madness” about eccentric big cat lovers and their dealings with and intrigues against each other had triggered a great hype around the series and its protagonists. Within a very short time, the series had become a huge hit. The sequel will be released on November 17th.
Tiger King: A little bit of true crime, a little bit of documentation and a lot of drama
The true crime miniseries featured several owners of private zoos in the USA who keep, breed and sell tigers and lions under questionable conditions. In addition to the introduction of the individual, it is primarily about Joe Exotic, a private zoo owner and his circumstances, relationships and intrigues with almost all the other protagonists of the series. The eccentric “Tiger King” Joe Exotic is said to have hired a murderer to kill Baskin. Exotic is now in jail for this. (Lukas Zigo / dpa)
