Consumption could have undesirable health consequences: An increased THC content was found in pastries, tea, protein bars and oil from the discounter. The police are investigating.
Heilbronn – After the nationwide Lidl recall of products because of too high an active ingredient content in hemp-containing foods, the Heilbronn public prosecutor has initiated an investigation.
The authority announced on Friday in Heilbronn that it was being investigated against unknown persons because of a violation of the Narcotics Act and an offense under the Food and Feed Code.
Callback on Wednesday
The discounter recalled pastries, tea, a protein bar and oil on Wednesday. An increased content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was found in all foods. This is the intoxicating component of the hemp plant (cannabis). Consumption of these foods could have undesirable health consequences, such as mood swings and fatigue. “Because of this, customers should pay attention to the recall and stop using the products,” warned the company.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, after a telephone call from a law firm commissioned by Lidl, small amounts of cannabidiol (CBD) were found in various products. Therefore, a violation of the Novel Food Ordinance can also be assumed. dpa
