A tornado washes several people into the water in Kiel. Several are seriously injured.
Kiel – There are several injured people on the Baltic Sea after they were washed into the water by a tornado. Early on Wednesday evening (29.09.2021) the group of people was busy securing a rowing boat on a jetty on the promenade in Kiel. When the windpants reached them, they could no longer hold on.
“You have been completely mixed up and people have fallen into the water,” said a spokesman for the fire department. According to current information, a total of seven people were injured in the extreme weather event. Six of them were taken to hospital, with three of them being seriously injured.

The assumption that the storm was a tornado comes from the German Weather Service (DWD): “Based on pictures, we assume that it was a tornado,” said a spokesman for the authority. However, this has not yet been finally confirmed. The DWD had previously issued a storm warning for Schleswig-Holstein. According to this, hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour can be expected.
