Travel to the USA possible again – you need to know that

From November 8th, people will be able to return to the US for tourist purposes. The government has now announced what to watch out for.

Washington DC – From big cities to mountain ranges to long sandy beaches: the United States has a lot to offer. No wonder, then, that millions of people from all over the world come to vacation in the “land of unlimited possibilities” every year. However, since the beginning of the corona pandemic in spring 2020, most people have not been allowed to enter the country. The then US President Donald Trump imposed an entry ban on people from numerous countries, including residents of the EU and Great Britain.

More than a year and a half later, that will change again, because from November 8, 2021, many people will again be allowed to go on tourist trips to the USA. Two weeks before the opening, the White House published further details on the entry rules on Monday (October 25, 2021).

USA: Complete corona vaccination as an entry requirement

What was already clear: From November 8th, foreigners can re-enter the USA if they are fully vaccinated with an internationally recognized corona vaccine. According to the White House, preparations will be accepted that have received approval or emergency approval from the US FDA or the World Health Organization (WHO). This currently applies to the corona vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, Astrazeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sinopharm and Sinovac.

According to the White House, proof of a full vaccination against the coronavirus is provided before the trip. Accordingly, tourists have to present their vaccination status to the airline. According to the US government, people who have received their last vaccination at least two weeks previously are considered fully vaccinated. So-called cross-vaccinations from two different vaccines are also permitted. A prerequisite for this is that the two preparations have international approval. There are only a few exceptions to the compulsory vaccination for travelers to the USA. This includes children or people who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons.

Vaccination and negative corona test mandatory when entering the USA

In addition to the vaccination status, tourists need a negative corona test when entering the USA, which must not be older than 72 hours. For unvaccinated people who fall under the exemption, the test must not be older than one day. According to the White House, both PCR tests and rapid corona tests are permitted.

In addition, airlines must collect and store the contact details of travelers to the USA in detail in order to be able to notify them in the event of possible corona cases. The EU had already hoped for a relaxation of the entry regulations for the USA in the summer, but the US government has remained tough so far. (msb)
