Mayor Michael Rak speaks of a “toilet paper syndrome”. A dry toilet made of larch wood is now supposed to remedy the situation. A pilot project.
Tübingen – If you have an urgent need as a hiker and there is no way to go to the toilet far and wide, you have a problem. But those who are on the premium hiking trail above the Unterjesingen district of Tübingen have been able to relieve themselves in an ecological forest toilet since Sunday.
The pilot project was initiated by Mayor Michael Rak. “A toilet paper syndrome had developed along the six-kilometer route on the circular hiking trail,” said Rak as a reason. A solution was needed. The dry toilet is located in the Obere Gögenhalde area and will be tested for six months. Dry toilets, which have long been used in Africa, among other places, served as a model. Unterjesingen bears the costs for the test of around 200 euros per month from the local budget.
The one meter wide forest toilet is made of larch wood, inside there is a pedestal with a lid. Below him is a container in which the human excrement is collected and separated from each other. The urine goes to the nearest sewage treatment plant, the manure is disposed of in a recycling plant in Brandenburg, according to the manufacturer. dpa
