Turkey classified as a corona high risk area

More than 20,000 new cases per day: Due to increasing corona infections, the German federal government is again issuing a travel warning for Turkey. The country is now a high risk area.

Istanbul – Due to increased corona infections, Turkey is now a high-risk area from a German point of view. In the middle of the holiday season, different rules have been in place for people arriving from the country, which is popular with tourists, since midnight.

This emerges from a communication from the Robert Koch Institute.

Entrants who have neither recovered nor vaccinated have to go into quarantine for ten days after their return – from the fifth day this can be ended with a negative corona test. For children under the age of twelve, the obligation to quarantine automatically ends after five days, as stated on the Ministry of Health’s website.

The federal government made the decision to classify it as a high-risk area last week – around a month and a half after the travel warning for all of Turkey was lifted. It is now valid again.

The number of corona cases in Turkey rose rapidly at the end of July, and currently more than 20,000 new cases are officially registered every day. In July there were still around 7,000 per day. For comparison: In Germany, around 2126 new cases were reported on Monday – with a similar population.

At the beginning of July, Turkey had greatly relaxed corona measures: For example, night-time exit bans during the week and on the weekend were lifted, the catering trade reopened, weddings and similar celebrations with guests are allowed again. dpa
