Around 6:15 p.m., a “large contingent” of police, fire brigade and rescue services were deployed at the accident site in the Gera-Thränitz area, according to a press release from the authorities in Thuringia. Two planes collided there and crashed over an open area. The two pilots died, but there were no other deaths or injuries.
According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, the two casualties were two aerobatic pilots who collided in the air with their machines near the Leumnitz airfield on Saturday evening.
