Palma – Two young vacationers from North Rhine-Westphalia drowned in the sea off Mallorca. The tragedy occurred on Thursday night off the coast of Cala Mandia in the east of the Spanish Mediterranean island, said the Mallorcan police.
The two fatalities are 23 and 25 years old and, according to the information, come from Lemgo near Bielefeld. According to initial findings, the two sisters went into the sea around 2:30 a.m. together with four other young tourists and a 30-year-old holidaymaker, all of whom came from Germany, despite the red flag. At the time, the sea was very churned by a storm and strong waves.
The body of the 23-year-old was recovered after some searches in the sea, according to the police and the rescue service. In the case of the 25-year-old, paramedics carried out resuscitation attempts on the beach, which were initially successful.
