Thunderstorms in New York and rain in the US states in the northeast: the first foothills of “Henri” have hit the coast. But it is no longer considered a hurricane.
New York – The US weather agency has downgraded Hurricane “Henri” off the northeast coast of the United States to a tropical storm.
The hurricane center announced on Sunday that “Henri” is expected to hit land in the late morning or early afternoon as a “strong tropical storm” and then weaken rapidly. The maximum wind speed is currently 110 kilometers per hour. Dangerous storm surges, heavy rains and strong gusts must be expected in the coastal region. Power outages were also expected.

On the night of Sunday (local time), the first rains had already reached the state of New York and other states in the northeast through “Henri”. In Central Park in New York City, a major concert with dozens of music stars had to be canceled due to a severe thunderstorm to mark the hoped-for end of the corona pandemic. It was only on Saturday that the US weather agency upgraded “Henri” to a hurricane. dpa
