One of the fathers of Artificial Intelligence, Marvin Minsky, has just won the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge award in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Thanks to his research in this field, the functions of computers, the ways of interacting with technology and the way of integrating them into our daily lives have been expanded.
The jury highlighted Minsky in the award naming certificate " his work on machine learning , in systems that integrate robotics, language, perception and planning as well as the representation of knowledge based on frames (frames) , have shaped the field of Artificial Intelligence ”.
After receiving the Minsky award, he has been convinced that machines will be created at least as intelligent as humans , although the deadlines to achieve this will depend on multiple factors. In fact, from his point of view, "Right now there are not enough resources or researchers" pointing out that "the great advances in Artificial Intelligence occurred between the 60s and 80s of the last century. In recent years I have not seen anything that surprises me, because now the funding is focused more on short-term applications than on basic science ”.
