In the morning (local time) a police officer was attacked, said the head of the Pentagon police, Woodrow Kusse, according to the dpa. The AP news agency reports that the policeman was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries. This would have been communicated by people familiar with the case.

The building was temporarily cordoned off in connection with gunfire near the entrance area, but the location has now been released again, according to AP. Only the crime scene, a bus terminal, remains blocked. Several people were also injured outside the Pentagon on Tuesday; the FBI is investigating.
