The weather forecast for the last weekend in August looks wet for Germany. Lots of rain and thunderstorms mean there is a risk of flooding, but temperatures remain high. The outlook.

Munich – The coming weekend is the last of this year’s August and in terms of weather, it’s going to be really banging again in the truest sense of the word. The summer month ends in Germany with lots of rain and high temperatures.

Weather in Germany: heavy rain, storms, flooding – this is how the weekend starts

The mild weather of late summer, which Germany can currently enjoy for the most part, will again demand a lot from the human circulatory system next weekend (week 34). While there is already an increased risk of severe weather in the north-east and east on Friday (26 August), the thermometers remain tropically warm at up to over 30 degrees Celsius in places. The high humidity makes the weather oppressive and steamy – but with these tips you can avoid muggy air in your apartment.

Showers and thunderstorms herald the weekend, precipitation of over 100 liters per square meter is expected. As meteorologist Alban Burster from the weather service wetter.com knows, the weather models around the world do not agree on where the heavenly floodgates will open the most in the coming days.

While the German model assumes the heaviest heavy rain from Schleswig-Holstein to Saxony, as well as along the eastern low mountain range in Bavaria, the European weather model predicts that up to 125 liters per square meter will fall on the Baltic Sea coast. Finally, the American model sees the center of Germany as the rain center, but assumes only 60 liters per square meter. However, there is agreement that the soil will not be able to absorb the water masses immediately. The German Weather Service (DWD) also warns of the risk of flooding. After some rivers in Austria recently burst their banks, it is advisable to pay attention not only to large bodies of water but also to the water levels of small streams and rivers.

Weather at the weekend: Saturday and Sunday will be wet and uncomfortable in Germany

Saturday (August 27) will bring hours of heavy rain across the country. Thunderstorms, whose conspecifics have already caused some weather warnings in July of this year, are increasingly moving east and south, according to the DWD there is a local risk of hail and storms. The maximum values are between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius, around 20 degrees Celsius are reached on the coast. Overall, it will be warmer in the west and southwest of the country.

The rainy weekend is already beginning to subside on Saturday evening, on Sunday (28 August) showers and thunderstorms are only expected in the extreme south and east, according to Burster. In the rest of Germany the sky is partly cloudy, in the southwest it remains sunny and dry for long stretches. The thermometers will measure 20 to 26 degrees Celsius, so it would be worth considering using the Sunday for an excursion – the 9-euro ticket is still valid. (askl)
