Weinstein in court in Los Angeles – trial probably 2022

Another case is ongoing against the former film producer Harvey Weinstein – also for sexual offenses. Now he has suffered a defeat in court. What’s next

Los Angeles – Former US film producer Harvey Weinstein was defeated before another sexual offense trial in Los Angeles.

His lawyers had been dismissed with their request in court that the charges be dropped, as US media reported. At a hearing on Tuesday, Judge Lisa Lench referred to sufficient testimony and evidence to warrant a trial, Rolling Stone Magazine wrote.

The next hearing on the case is scheduled for early May. There is not yet a date for the start of the process. Observers believe that a start before summer is unlikely.

There are eleven charges against Weinstein, including rape. Overall, the process in California revolves around allegations from five women, in a period from 2004 to 2013. The ex-producer has pleaded “not guilty”.

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York City in March 2020 for rape and sexual assault. In July he was taken to Los Angeles to face the authorities. dpa
