It is the main constituent of all living things. Composed of a cytoplasm and a nucleus and protected by a membrane , if the cell is characterized by something, it is by its ability to reproduce independently.
The cytoplasm, located between the nucleus and the membrane, fulfills three main functions. On the one hand , it is nutritious , since it has substances that are later transformed into energy. On the other, the storage of reserve substances. Lastly, the structural function , which in addition to shaping the cell, is the key to all its movements.
For its part, the nucleus is responsible for the cells dividing into two types: eukaryotes , with their own nucleus separated from the cytoplasm; and prokaryotes , in which the elements of the nucleus are not defined and are mixed with the cytoplasm.
The cells of living organisms are microscopic in size. Living beings can be classified as unicellular (if they have a single cell) or multicellular (if they have many, as is the case with humans, who have hundreds of billions).
