Suddenly one day you wake up in the morning and, trying to turn on your iPhone or iPad as usual to check emails and some of the most important news, you discover to your surprise that it does not turn on. The problem can be even more overwhelming when, in addition, you have left it charging overnight, so you know that it is probably not a problem related to the battery.
The truth is that, be that as it may, we are faced with a problem that can be as simple as it is difficult to solve, since everything will depend on what is the cause that is causing the Apple phone or the touch tablet not to turn on.
Basically, there can be three basic reasons why an iPhone may not turn on: a failure in the software, the device needs to be restarted or restored, or due to a hardware problem .
How to fix an iPhone that won’t turn on? What is the problem?
A software or hardware problem?
First of all, it is necessary to determine if the reason why our iPhone does not turn on may be related to a software or hardware problem. A problem associated with software tends to be easier to solve; and this is where we will start.
However, if nothing works, and the problem persists, it is likely that the reason is a hardware problem, for which the only solution is to take it to the official Apple technical service (or a technical service authorized by the company).
Software glitch
This is actually a tremendously common problem. And a simple solution to force restart the device . Although the steps to follow will differ depending on the iPhone model we have.
If you have an iPhone 6s or earlier model, you must simultaneously press and hold the power button and the home button for at least 20 seconds, or until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
If you have an iPhone 7, or newer, you must press and hold the power button and the volume button simultaneously. For an iPhone 8 or later, quickly press and release the volume “+” button, and then press and release the volume “-” button, to finally press the side button (iPhone X, XS and XR) or the power button (on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus).
This solution works many times because the device software has possibly crashed, which is why the system is unresponsive and shows a black screen. In fact, the iPhone has never actually been turned off; on the contrary, it has been on all the time, but without responding.
Checking the Lightning cable and charger
If the iPhone cannot turn on, it may not have been charged properly. If so, we can try using a different cable or charger , or try charging someone else’s iPhone. In this way we can verify if our cable and / or charger work properly.
In case the iPhone of our family member or friend can be charged normally, but ours cannot, then the problem is likely to continue.
Is it really a screen problem?
If despite everything indicated, we still cannot turn on the device, it is interesting to connect the iPhone to the Mac and start iTunes . Is iTunes able to recognize the device? If so, it is recommended to carry out a backup immediately. And it is that, if it is a hardware problem, this could become the last opportunity to make a backup of all our data.
In this way, if iTunes was able to detect the device, and we managed to make a backup, then it is possible that the problem is related to the screen, and that we should repair it .
What to do if none of this works?
If our device is still under warranty, and the iPhone has no physical damage, then Apple may be able to repair it for free. Otherwise, it is clear that the solution necessarily involves taking it to the technical service as well.
