Whatsapp: How to put a ringtone for each contact

Beyond all doubt, WhatsApp is probably one of the applications that we will almost certainly find on all mobile phones today. The reason is quite simple: it offers amazing features and functionalities to its users with a smooth interface and very simple navigation. It is one of the most important messaging applications in the world and since Facebook acquired WhatsApp, it has become even more popular for its regular updates.

By default, all incoming WhatsApp messages and calls will activate the same notification tone, but you should know that this app allows us to configure custom notifications for any of our WhatsApp contacts. This way, you can easily identify who is texting just by listening to the tone and then decide if you want to open the phone right now or not . Fortunately, this feature is built into WhatsApp.

You can use this feature to assign custom ringtones and custom message notification tones for individual and group contacts on your phone or tablet.

Custom WhatsApp notifications can be described as the ability to assign unique or custom ringtones for WhatsApp calls and messages per contact. This functionality makes it easier to find out which contact is calling / texting us by hearing just the tone.

Add custom WhatsApp notifications

  1. Open the Phone app. It’s on your phone’s home screen and has a phone icon.
  2. Tap on contacts
  3. Tap on the contact you want to add a special ringtone
  4. Click Edit (located in the upper right corner).
  5. Tap on Ringtone (or on “More” at the bottom of the screen).
  6. Tap on Add from device storage (optional), to use a song from your mobile as a ringtone
  7. Tap on the chosen ringtone.
  8. Click on the option to go back. Clever! The chosen ringtone will only sound when you receive a call from that specific contact.

Now you must repeat this same process with all the contacts to which you want to assign a tone of your own. Remember that for Android it would be “Notifications” and for iOs it would be “Custom Tone”.

Alternative way

You can also do it from the Music app on your Android smartphone , although in this case, we will follow the steps in reverse. Instead of assigning the contact first, we’ll pick the song piece first and assign it to a specific contact. By making a long press on the song we will get the option “Define as”; then we choose “Caller’s melody” and the contact to which we want to assign that song. Clever!

Did you know that you can create a shortcut of your WhatsApp conversations?

This is the least known feature of WhatsApp that, like Facebook Messenger, allows the possibility of creating a shortcut for our conversations. This facilitates quick and instant messaging. You can create any number of chat shortcuts on your phone’s home screen like this:

1. Open your WhatsApp application.
2. Go to the header of the chat for which you want to create a shortcut.
3. Touch the 3 vertical dots located in the upper right corner of the screen.
4. Hit More from the list of options.
5. Press Add Shortcut.
6. You will receive the instant message on your phone screen that says “Chat shortcut added to your home screen”.

From now on you will be able to send messages directly to anyone simply by touching the chat shortcut from the home screen without navigating the actual WhatsApp application.
