When and where will the mask requirement end in 2022?

Despite the high number of infections in Germany, many corona rules are a thing of the past. Often also the obligation to wear a mask. When and where will it end now.

Bremen/Hannover/Hamburg/Schwerin/Kiel – Despite the high number of infections, the first nationwide corona protection requirements for millions of people have ended. However, the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask does not automatically end everywhere with the implementation and introduction of the new Corona rules.

Corona rule: when and where does the mask requirement end in 2022?

You no longer need 3G proof that you have been vaccinated, recovered or tested to travel by train with Deutsche Bahn. The mask requirement in local and long-distance public transport, i.e. in buses and trains, but also in airplanes, can still apply. When shopping, the mask requirement has almost been abolished and yet it still exists. The legal obligation to provide 3G access proofs at the workplace has also been abolished – in future companies will be able to define protection concepts themselves as corona rules.

Widespread criticism of the easing course in the course of the Corona rules of the traffic light coalition does not stop. With the new legal situation, the federal states are under pressure to implement possible stricter everyday requirements, at least regionally. Further restrictions are possible for regional hotspots if the relevant state parliament determines that the corona situation is particularly critical.

In this case, the affected regional authorities (counties, urban districts) can apply extended protective measures, such as the obligation to wear masks, distance requirements or hygiene concepts. A resolution of the state parliament is required.

The newly drafted Infection Protection Act will initially apply until September 23, 2022. Both Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and Prime Minister of Lower Saxony Stephan Weil (SPD) pointed out that new corona measures would have to be decided before a possible autumn corona wave could occur. Weil also harshly criticized the new Infection Protection Act as insufficient.

Where and when does the mask requirement end in 2022: Current corona rules in Lower Saxony – mask falls in the open air

It is no longer mandatory to wear a mask at work. The companies decide independently whether the mask requirement is included in a corresponding hygiene concept and corona rule. They are required to observe the local infection process with Covid-19. This means that the corona protective measures are no longer directly prescribed by the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance. It is also up to the companies whether they make protective masks available to the employees in the event of a mask requirement.

In Lower Saxony, masks are no longer compulsory in the open air. The minimum distances in the open air are also history according to the new and current Corona rules in Lower Saxony. At events in closed rooms, on the other hand, FFP2 masks must initially continue to be worn. The mask requirement has also been relaxed in clubs. The mask may be removed here while sitting or while eating and drinking. Likewise, from Monday, March 21, 2022, elementary school students will no longer be required to wear masks. In Bremen, the mask requirement will remain in retail until the beginning of April.

Mask requirement in Schleswig-Holstein: From April 2nd, the Corona rule will be lifted

In Schleswig-Holstein, on the other hand, the mask requirement will continue until April 2nd. The obligation to wear masks therefore continues to apply there at larger events indoors, in retail and for body-related services as a corona rule in Schleswig-Holstein. But a mask must still be worn on local public transport in Schleswig-Holstein. After April 2nd, the mask requirement will fall, also in schools.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is not relaxing at all for the time being. The mask requirement in retail will remain in place there at least until April 2, 2022. However, a normal surgical mask is completely sufficient to meet the mask requirement. In Meck-Pomm, masks are still compulsory in local transport, in indoor sports and at indoor and outdoor events.

End of the mask requirement in Hamburg in 2022: the Corona rule only applies in clubs and discos in the Hanseatic city

After April 2nd, the government of Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) is primarily relying on a mask requirement indoors. In clubs it should be possible to waive the mask requirement. The state parliament in Schwerin will decide on March 24, 2022 what the Corona rule will look like. A special session has been convened for this purpose.

In the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, too, they want to wait until April 2 before taking further steps to relax the corona rules in Hamburg and would like to take advantage of the 14-day waiting period promised by the federal government. Yes, even after April 2, Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) wants to stick to the general mask requirement. Only in clubs and discotheques can the mask requirement be waived by applying the 2G Plus rule. The mask requirement in Hamburg also remains in place in retail and local transport. * kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
