When is All Saints' Day?

All Saints’ Day 2021 will be a holiday throughout Spain , a Monday in which traditions will be respected to the maximum in a most special holiday. On November 1, all countries with a Christian tradition celebrate a day that has a lot of symbolism. Its history goes back to the beginnings of a church that has been forged by martyrs and people who transmitted their faith. All Saints is the time of year when we remember those people who are no longer with us and we do it for a specific reason.

All Saints’ Day is November 1

During the beginnings of Catholicism it was a persecuted religion, many people ended up dying as a result of their faith. There were so many martyrs that a single day was established to remember them all who have lost their lives. A single date on the calendar invites you to pray for all of them.

In the XXI century in Spain it is time to dedicate time to those who are no longer there . Cemeteries are filled with life and flowers, they are days of tears, but also of smiles as we live again those intense moments with ours. We dedicate time to them that during the rest of the year we may not have, although visiting them in the place where they rest should be customary. Families take the opportunity to meet again in memory of their ancestors.

Not all over the world it is celebrated in the same way, there are other countries with a Christian tradition that decide to celebrate it together with November 2. That day is the ‘Day of the faithful departed’ , in that case we pray for the faithful who have died and are still in purgatory. It is a type of holiday that is associated in countries like Mexico with the Day of the Dead. There is a whole series of sweets and parties around deceased relatives and a cult of death. A mix with Anglo-Saxon Halloween that can lead to some confusion.

This 2021 we will have an unrestricted holiday in Spain , waiting to live it again like a few years ago. With no apparent capacity limit, the pandemic will allow us to celebrate these intimate moments with the whole family that has stolen from us for a few months. It is time to be with those who are no longer there, to pay them the tribute they deserve.
