After evaluating the retentiveness of 4,500 Britons between the ages of 49 and 90, a team of British scientists from the University of Cambridge has shown that women outperform men in the ability to memorize information . Education also plays a role: participants who left school after age 18 made 20% fewer total errors than those who stopped studying before age 16.
In addition to explaining why they remember events and anniversaries better than they do, the scientists hope that the study will help understand the causes of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias , as well as detect their onset early.
