Director Damien Chazelle was able to win a star-studded cast for his new film “Babylon”: In addition to Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, Olivia Wilde and Tobey Maguire are also in front of the camera.
Los Angeles – Wild parties, drugs and bombastic film sets: Oscar winner Damien Chazelle (“La La Land”) posted a two-minute trailer for his directorial project “Babylon” on Tuesday (local time).
Set in Hollywood in the late 1920s, the period drama from Studio Paramount has an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Diego Calva. Olivia Wilde, Tobey Maguire, Spike Jonze and musician Flea are also on board.
The video takes us into Hollywood party life and on film sets with Robbie as an aspiring starlet and Pitt as a celebrated movie star. The film is intended to shed light on the rise and fall of fictional and historical figures in the transition from silent film to talkie.
In his Oscar-winning La La Land (2016), Chazelle transported a young jazz pianist (Ryan Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) to present-day Los Angeles. In 2018, he brought Descent to the Moon, starring Gosling as astronaut Neil Armstrong. “Babylon” is scheduled to open in some US cinemas at Christmas and then be shown worldwide in January. dpa
