The Balearic Islands are slowly but surely returning to normal. You can now dance again. But there are still a few restrictions.
Palma – For the first time since the outbreak of the corona pandemic a year and a half ago, clubs, discos and nightspots on Mallorca and the other Balearic Islands are allowed to open their dance floors again from October 8th. This was announced by the regional tourism minister Iago Negueruela in view of the low corona numbers.
“The Balearic Islands are practically returning to normal,” he said. But it won’t be that normal yet, because if you want to dance, you have to wear a mask. If you don’t dance, but sip on a drink, you have to sit down. It ends at 5 a.m.
Bars and pubs were allowed to serve customers under changing conditions even during the pandemic, but the dance floors were taboo. The judiciary has yet to approve the politicians’ plans. These stipulate that when you enter, you must prove that you have been vaccinated, recovered or tested with a Covid passport. It is likely that the restaurants will only be allowed to let in 75 percent of their actually permitted number of guests.
The rule change is unlikely to have any effect on Playa de Palma, as many of the restaurants there will soon close due to the approaching end of the season. The night club operators in Palma should breathe a sigh of relief. The industry has barely made a penny since the pandemic broke out. Those who did not throw in the towel survived only thanks to government aid.
Again and again there were black sheep who whistled about the rules. Just last week, for example, the police closed a café in Palma that had been converted into an illegal discotheque.
As in the rest of Spain, the Corona situation on Mallorca is relaxed. The seven-day incidence there is currently only 37. The situation in the hospitals has also eased a lot. dpa
