Gibraltar has not canceled Christmas celebrations due to Corona
Some people in the social networks spread that Gibraltar had canceled all Christmas celebrations due to Corona – but this representation is incorrect.
Gibraltar’s Chief Minister Fabian Picardo wrote on the short message service Twitter: “I’m surprised I have to say that, BUT Gibraltar has NOT canceled Christmas.” They only “canceled large government-organized events” and urged people to be careful.

But Christmas celebrations or not, the number of infections is extremely high compared to other European countries. There are currently around 730 active cases of infection known in Gibraltar. The seven-day incidence is over 1000 – and thus at the top in Europe. The situation does indeed look dramatic at first glance. However, if you take a closer look, the numbers lose their horror. According to official information, only one person is on the corona ward in the hospital. No person is treated intensively.
Corona in Gibraltar: Unvaccinated people in a sample were significantly more affected
Another detail shows that the vaccination is working: Among the 25 newly infected people reported on Sunday (November 21, 2021) were nine unvaccinated, the majority of whom were minors. On Friday (November 19th, 2021) 56 new corona cases were reported, 29 of them were unvaccinated, most of them minors.
The sample at least shows that in Gibraltar – if you put it in relation – significantly more unvaccinated than vaccinated people are infected with the corona virus.
