2G option in the supermarket – Netto is committed to the Corona rule

Supermarket chains such as Lidl, Aldi, Edeka, Kaufland and the stores of the Rewe Group have presented in the 2G question. Now Netto has also clearly positioned itself.

Maxhütte-Haidhof – With Hesse and Lower Saxony, the first two federal states have advanced and allow supermarkets to use the Corona option 2G. But so far it has mainly been rejections. The big supermarket chains almost unanimously invoke their function as

Aldi, Lidl, Edeka, Kaufland and the Rewe Group stores have invoked their function as grocery retailers who are supposed to ensure basic supplies. In addition, the German Trade Association (HDE) said that any controls to implement a 2G or 3G model of vaccination passports, for example, and the tests would lead to long queues in front of the shops.

Now Netto has also followed suit. The discounter with the largest number of branches in Germany emphasized its “important role in the local supply of the population” according to consistent media reports. The chain wants to maintain its “comprehensive and proven hygiene concept” in all branches, but a spokeswoman for the company confirms that an option model is “not an option for us” because “we want to enable everyone to shop in our Netto branches”.

Despite the rejection of the Netto Group to 2G: trade association wants option model throughout Germany

Despite the cancellation of the grocery chains, the German Retail Association is calling for the new 2G option model to be extended to retail throughout Germany. It is not yet certain how many federal states want to and will follow the example of Hesse and Lower Saxony. Hesse’s Prime Minister Volker Bouffier assumes that everyday business in his state would rather not make use of the 2G option model.

A member survey of the trade association points in the same direction: four out of five trade companies in Hesse, the 2G model is therefore not an option. Around 80 percent of retailers currently do not want to use the 2G model. Companies from consulting-intensive industries such as opticians, bridal fashion shops and photo shops, on the other hand, are flirting with an application of the model.

After the introduction of the 2G model: shopkeeper receives death threat

However, there are also those who believe in conspiracies, who are close to the “lateral thinking” or anti-vaccination scene, hostility towards shops that use 2G. In Frankfurt am Main, Kaweh Nemati, the owner of the two women’s boutiques Escatira and Romy, stated that he only wanted to allow vaccinated and Genese customers into his shop. Just two days later he reported a death threat to the Frankfurter Rundschau, his shop was littered with eggs and bad reviews were hailing. (Mirko Schmid)
